Henrietta Maria and the Dwarf Sir Jeffrey Hudson: 1633
"Portrait of a Lady", 1667, by Gabriël Metsu (Dutch, 1629-1667). Dating to the last year of Metsu's tragically short life, this exquisitely preserved panel reveals the elegant and ornate style that he was developing in response to trends in contemporary Dutch portraiture at mid-century. Although unidentified, the sitter was a woman of status and wealth as evidenced by the opulence of her dress and furnishings.
So simple, so nice, but I don't dig much the sage taffetà or satin cloth. A bit of a sickly colour on most complexions.

Sternberg Palace (Prague): Around 1626, Pickenoy was the leading portrait painter in Amsterdam. His clients appreciated the flattering manner of his paintings, with which skin, fabrics and accessories were softly modelled in meticulous de3tail. The sitter holds magnificent gloves such as those traditionally given to a woman by her future husband as a wedding present. However, this young lady's costume, a black tabaard with an open skirt and red underskirt indicates that she is not yet marrie...
