Java Hokokai Batik is characterized by flowers in a garden surrounded by butterflies. This motif originated during the Japanese occupation of Java in the early 1940s. The fabrics usually is done in two pattern called pagi/sore refer to two type of motifs in one sheet of fabric. Another recognizable traits of Java Hokokai batik are the Japanese influenced motifs; sakura (cherry blossoms) and seruni or kiku (chrysanthemums, the symbol of the emperor), butterflies (female elegance).
