Werkudara & Arjuna ~ Indonesian performers, Wayang Wong ~ Java ~ Indonesia ~ c1923-1926

old-indische: Indonesian performers, Wayang Wong ~ Java ~ Indonesia ~

Dayak Tribe | Borneo-Indonesia. Young Iban boy in traditional clothing. Certainly look very fine in gala dress; though the boys may not wear as much as their sisters, their silver ornaments, scarlet waist-cloths, elaborately ornamented swords turbans, make them fit companions for the girls. The boys' costume is more comfortable than the girls', but ornament in dress is a passion of the Sea Dayaks, small child, left, with his plumed hat necklace, is already a martyr to fashion.

A sub-ethnic group of the Dayak people, Iban or Sea Dajak boy and girl in traditional clothing.

Indonesian dancers c1880s

Indonesian dancers - Would love to have more info on this. It's as much comment about the Western photographer who took this as it is a representation of the local traditions and customs of the day.

Two Balinese woman and a man. Date and photographer unknown.

Smiles are rarely seen in photos taken during Netherlands colonial rule. Sadly, the Dutch were not kindly rulers and often mistreated the Balinese people.
