Nias Island - Indonesia

Nias Island in northwest Indonesia has got a lot going for it; world class surfing, endless beaches and an amazing culture. Yet very few outside people go there. I worked there for a few years helping out with tourism development. These are some of the photos I took for the VISIT NIAS ISLAND campaign. Also take a look at the website www.visitniasisland.com

First record of Silvery Pigeon in captivity. The critically endangered Silvery Pigeon (Columba argentina) is one of the most threatened species of pigeon in the world. It was missing and believed extinct for 76 years before being rediscovered in Mentawai islands off the west-coast of Sumatra in 2008. In October 2016 two captive Silvery Pigeons were ‘discovered’ at the zoo of the Nias Heritage Museum.
