malaysian Nyonya Kebaya: a traditional ethnic costume worn by Straits Settlement Chinese ladies, "nyonyas". The main difference from other kebayas is that, the material used for the top is sheer, ie. gauze cotton, voile or georgette. It is thus necessary to wear an inner cotton camisole which is called "anak baju". The top is hand-embroidered with beautiful motifs with emphasis at the collar, sleeves and hem of the jacket. The sarong (long skirt), is made of batik from Java.
