Man of Nias, Sumatra, Indonesia in ceremonial costume. Mentawai (also known as Mentawei and Mentawi) people are the native people of the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra province, Indonesia.  The Mentawai population is estimated to be about 64,000. The Mentawai language belongs to the Austronesian language family. The people are characterised by their heavy spirituality, body art and their tendency to sharpen their teeth, a practice they feel makes one beautiful.

Indonesian Aceh warriors 1897 with their daggers and rencong. The Aceh fought an extended war  (Aceh War, also known as the Dutch War or the Infidel War) 1873–1914,  it was an armed military conflict between the Sultanate of Aceh and the Netherlands. The war was part of a series of conflicts in the late 19th century that consolidated Dutch rule over modern day Indonesia.

Dayak tribe, Borneo Indonesia

A Dayak chief, complete with amazing headdress, costume and weaponry. Supposedly some of my ancestors were of royal blood from the Dayak tribes of Borneo! I love this image - thank you Wikipedia for schooling me in my history x
