The Tower of London. It still stands after having being built over 1,000 years ago. Originally a royal palace, it turned into a prison as times went on. It was where Anne, along with the 5 men condemned with her, were housed, awaiting their executions. It also housed the executed Thomas More, Thomas Cromwell, and Katherine Howard- Henry's 5th queen, executed for adultery (her acts were proven, unlike Anne's "supposed" infidelities).

Welcome back! Another exciting post in my travelogue around the historic UK awaits. This time, it's the cathedral city of Hereford, in the border area between England and Wales. Hereford, because of its location, has often been caught between the English and raids from the Welsh, which is presumably what led to the foundation, in the Saxon era, of Hereford Castle, one of the first castles to be built in the country sometime in the early 1050s by Ralph 'the Timid', the French-born Earl of…

The White Tower is the oldest structure within the Tower of London. White Tower, which gives the entire castle its name, was built by William the Conqueror in 1078, and was a resented symbol of oppression, inflicted upon London by the new ruling elite.

Taken after hours in the Tower of London. It was a little strange (and delightful!) walking around without having any tourists getting in the way. The Jewel house is the home to the Crown Jewels. Sadly cameras are not allowed to be used inside and I didn't want to take advantage of the hospitality shown to us all, so my camera remained in my bag when I was inside. This has been tonemapped and I was quite pleased with how it turned out, especially as the three exposures were taken handheld…

Ruins of the Roman wall inside the Tower of London: I remember being more impressed by this glimpse into the past, than the actual Tower itself!
