Rietveld was a member of ‘De Stijl’ (The Style), an artistic movement with artists like Piet Mondrian, who searched for a new ideal of harmony and order. Compositions were made of straight lines and primary colors, plus black and white. The Rietveld Schröder House fits the ideals of The Style. It is the most influential domestic building of the early modern period.
