In the Art Room: Printed and Collaged Winter Self Portraits by Second Grade

So I kinda sorta told the kids that if they painted and printed their winter selfies really well, we just might get the magic of snow. Snow seems to elude us in these parts...but not this year. Turns out these cute things really DID bring on the snow which was totes fab...except for the fact that it meant we've been working on these bad boys for a coupla days weeks. But that's all right. I mean, just take a lil look-see at how stinkin' awesome these printed and collaged winter self-portraits…

Winter Penguins, Polar Bears, & Snowmen!

Penguins, Polar Bears, & Snowmen!

Well, it finally decided to look like winter here in the Midwest. So, what better way to ring in the season than to make some winter animals! I got this adorable lesson from Mrs. Haake over at Apex Art, http://apexart.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html. I loved all of the bright colors! After 2 classes of penguins, however, I needed to mix-it up and add some other creatures. So, we used the same concept of cutting specific shapes by making Polar Bears & Snowpeople. Christmas Ornaments

We made a snowman out of Popsicle sticks and craft foam. I used THESE patterns to trace on craft foam. Here's a cute gift bag they can make for their ornament. This is a felt ornament. It's a clear plastic bulb with mini holiday items in it. The "snow" is Epsom salt. Click on the picture to get the I Spy poem. Santa…
