Tongkonan is the traditional house of the Torajan people. It is made of wood without the use of metal elements such as nails. All elements are fitted together using clever combinations of joints and fittings. The upturned ends of each roof are supposedly representative of the horns of a bull, but also contribute to keeping the house cooler during dry seasons.
