Papua New Guinea - back in 2002 I had my first "big animal" encounter at the manta ray cleaning station just off the beach at Gonu Bara Bara island at the bottom of the China Straits in Milne Bay. To be in the water so close to these magnificent creatures had an incredible impact on me and kind of drives me to this day... On the recent trip to Milne Bay on Chertan we spent three days at the island and as everybody else was a "nudibrancista" I had the mantas all to myself!
Papua New Guinea - Milne Bay: Got back to Bali last night after a great trip on the Chertan. Mainly dived the sites in the south around the China Strait, including the island of Kwato where there is a new jetty which the local kids use a diving platform after school. They took great delight in acting as underwater models and were soooo happy when I showed them the images later that day!
