Dried wild bergamot seed head
This is my most satisfying shot to date of the dried seed head of wild bergamot (Monarda fistulosa), also known as bee balm. I love the intricate detail of the ridged tubes, and the whole structure is less than the diameter of a U.S. quarter. Taken near a pond on the opposite side of West Calhoun Parkway from Lake Calhoun. We knew he spent a lot of time on our land but he never came out in the daytime so it was impossible to get a photo of him, so I knew the only way we would get a photo of him was with a deer cam.
