What top coat should I use?  It depends on your objectives; do you want a clear finish, fast dry time, interior or exterior use, a certain sheen, want to spray, etc. ?  For an interior clear finish or a Flat finish, use HIGH PERFORMANCE water based topcoat.

Mix your own colors with these formulas from General Finishes Color Lab. Most of these formulas are from the Milk Paint Mixing Deck, available at GF retailers and distributors.

Valspars "Mountain Smoke" mixed with Paint Minerals (Fine sanding between coats using a 220 sand block). Next I mixed 1/4 cup General Finishes High Performance Satin Top coat with 2 teaspoons of  GF Argentine Pearl effects and went over the entire piece using a 2 in. brush. Once dry, with a 2 in. brush I applied a light coat of GF Pitch Black Glaze using GF Enduro Extender to give myself a longer window of workable time.
