The reputed death mask of Mary Queen of Scots, beheaded in 1587 at the age of forty-four. Many believe it to be a forgery since she was condemned of treason against England and her cousin Elizabeth I, so all relics of her would have been carefully destroyed. Death masks were made by placing wax over the deceased's face, with eyelashes, eyebrows, hair, paint added later.
