North Sulawesi babirusa (Babyrousa celebensis)

The Babirusa from some of the forested islands of Indonesia is also known as the pig-deer. There is a myth that the tusks (which are only on the male) can grow backward into the skull and kill the animal, but this is untrue.

Babirusa, meaning "Hog-deer", are members of the pig family found in Wallacea, or specifically the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi, Togian.
