After living in their house for a little over two years, Amanda, of the blog Simply Maggie, and her husband decided it was time to remodel the kitchen. Going to one extreme, there’s the gut renovation, and to the other, filling your space with salvaged and antique pieces that predate the construction of your home. Whichever you prefer, being creative within your budget and true to your sense of style is key. That’s why I love this cozy, modestly-updated kitchen.

When Kelly and her husband moved into a 1950s fixer-upper in late 2012, they knew their kitchen — with original (in Kelly’s words, grime-encrusted) pine cabinets, aluminum-wrapped laminate counters and linoleum floors mixed with asbestos — would need some aesthetic upgrading. They even started working on this room two hours after closing on the house! From Kelly: To say that it was a labor of love is an understatement.
