The Azerbaijani tradition of weaving carpets is one of the most ancient arts and crafts of the country and dates as far back as the 2nd millennium BC. Because of their high aesthetic value, these vibrant carpets have been used in Azerbaijan to cover floors, decorate interior walls, sofas, chairs, beds, and even tables.

Azerbaijan’s most influential contemporary artist tells us about the ancient language of carpets and the complex cultural history of his native land.

These unique, handcrafted rugs are made to emulate the look and feel of moss, grass, snow and sand, for enjoyment at home.

Creating a hand-hooked stair carpet, as I found out, takes a little more planning than your average floor rug. Beyond the usual tasks of choosing colors to match your decor and dimensions to fit the space, you also need to plan designs to fit the risers and allow extra backing beyond the finished edges.
