a quilted wall hanging with colorful designs on it's sides and the number one

These are scraps left from Under the Big Top that I made last summer for a great nephew. This is a charity quilt and I also have learned a neat way to sew the binding on entirely by machine. Here is a close up!! These are leftover pieces from the Chevron quilt I made for another great nephew earlier this year. What shall I do?? I am pretty fond of strippy quilts so I started putting pieces in rows, cutting up a few larger pieces and all of a sudden I had a cool finished quilt! I am afraid my…

a purple and pink quilted wall hanging on the floor next to a brown carpet

I'm making 52 quilts in 2018 for Jack's Basket, where babies with Down syndrome are celebrated. In May I worked on quilts 18, 19, 20 and 21: Quilt number 18 is quilted with Macaroni: Quilt number 19 is quilted with Pretty Paisley: Quilt number 20 is quilted with Baby Curls: Quilt number 21 is quilted with Spring Thing: The quilt pattern I'm using is "Simple Gifts" from the mini book, Fat Quarter Love, by Modern Quilt Studio. Do you have a go-to baby quilt pattern? I'm being affected by the…

a pink and green patchwork quilt with flowers on it's border, sitting on a wooden surface

I'm making 52 quilts in 2018 for Jack's Basket, where babies with Down syndrome are celebrated. I went through my calendar and numbered all 52 of the Saturdays in 2018. Since June has 5 Saturdays, I finished 5 quilts this month. We went on a road trip to California this month. While staying at my DH's childhood home, I pieced 11 baby quilt tops on this Singer 201 that was his grandmother's sewing machine, manufactured in March of 1950. With a lot of oil (there must've been 30 oil spots in…

a colorful patchwork quilt with lots of different colors

Working on quilts for 2024. Most quilts will go to Wrap-A-Smile though a few will go to Quilts of Valor & most will go to Wrap-A-Smile. I was away for several months this year so my production has been down. Several of my quilting friends in the Sunshine Online Quilting guild are making 44 quilts for 2024. It's now October 25 so I am thinking I'll not have that many quilts for this year but heck, I'll try to get as many done as possible. Back of prior quilt

an orange and brown patchwork quilt on the ground

I kicked off 2021 by sewing lots of quilts tops from my stash. 2020 gave me lots of time to rethink where and how I will spend my volunteer time in 2021! The Stitching Sisters is a local Columbus OH group that I have been involved with, on and off, for many, many years. My best friend who fought breast cancer in 2020 (now in remission) received one of their quilts. I decided it was time for me to get back and give back to them. You can read about the Stitching Sister's efforts here. I had…

a pink and white quilt on the floor with black trimmings, in front of a wooden floor

I've been on a roll with the charity quilts this year. It's a great way to practice quilting or try out new things. Here are the two I finished this week. The first one is a more girly quilt. I quilted one of my favorite patterns ever, Ginger Blossoms, on it. The second is the second I Spy quilt I made with some bug fabrics I'd had forever. I tried a new quilting pattern, Cobblestones, on it to complement the black fabric. It's very hard to see, but the black fabric has small circles on it…

a colorful patchwork quilt with different colors

The other day at my guild's Council meeting, the charity committee was discussing plans. I offered to put together a quick tutorial for something easy and versatile, that could be suitable either for children or veterans (wheel chair size). Members who want to participate can choose whichever works best to use up their scraps or their stash. Here is what I came up with: CSQ Charity Quilt, 40" x 48" Here is the top I made to test the pattern: CSQ Charity Quilt Top, 40" x 48" For anyone who is…
