"The Country Doctor" ends ambiguously, a specialty of Kafka's, forcing his audience to reread. Another confusing aspect to this story is it's alterations between the past and present tense. Kafka starts in the past, switches to present, then back to the past, and ends in the present. This makes it difficult for the reader to follow but adds on to the dream-like feel of the story.
