Florence Cathedral, formally the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, is the cathedral of Florence, Italy. It was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to a design of Arnolfo di Cambio and was structurally completed by 1436, with the dome engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi. This photo captures the Duomo through the trees as I was walking down the hilltops from the Abbey of San Miniato al Monte. The time of day was late afternoon and the sun was bathing the Duomo in golden light. The Duomo as seen from the Palazzo Vecchio clocktower in Florence. If you look closely you can just see the people near the top of the dome, this certainly gives a good indication of scale if one were needed..... I know this is pretty much just a 'record' shot but I think it's so important to take these, in my experience they're the shots that end up selling which make me some money so I can keep travelling and take the 'artier' stuff.
