I draw a lot of inspiration from Japanese and Chinese prints and cultures to paint my watercolors. The black shape of this watercolor was made with a dried fennel flower, I sometimes use broccoli, chopsticks or feathers, to obtain a different effect than with the brushes. I like to combine abstract shapes with a figurative element. I find this watercolor captivating, almost hypnotic. It is soothing, deep and mystical at the same time. It is an A3 format. Fukutaro Terauchi - Not much is known about the artist Fukutaro Terauchi except that he seems to have been active from about the 1930s through the 1960s or 1970s. His attractive watercolor paintings and woodblock prints focus on traditional Japanese scenery throughout the seasons, and were likely produced for the tourist market. His softly colored, atmospheric designs are rendered with quick, loose brushstrokes, giving them a romantic feel. A nice choice for display.
