the words 10 gifts for quilters other than fabric are in purple, orange and pink

As the holidays approach, I’m sure there are a lot of friends and family looking for gifts a quilter would love. If you are a quilter, you may be looking for a fun or unusual notion to inclu…

four white boxes with pink bows are stacked on top of each other and have cards attached to them

Hi Everyone, Thanks for all your condolences on the passing of my cousin. It has been a difficult thing and has given me lots of cause to reflect. I'll share a little more about that later. Right now, I'd like to try to get back in the saddle a little...

six mint green zippered pouches lined up next to each other on the sidewalk

Every year at my Gruber's retreat we exchange "happies". This year I made 11 (!!!) zipper pouches to share with my friends. (Included in that total: I made one to keep, plus another one for my friend/neighbor, AND I made one that was an inch too short, due to a cutting error. Hahaha! Although it wasn't funny at the time....) I also spray painted the handles of these bow scissors, which I purchased at Harbor Freight. (I included a pair in each zip pouch.) I can't take credit for the cute…

a hand holding a small red and blue patchwork pocket with the words how to make a pocket prayer quilt

A pocket prayer quilt is a tiny quilt with a prayer or saying on it. It works up quickly, uses scrap fabric, and the prayer can be attached with a piece of paper or ironed on the fabric using HTV or DTF transfer. They are a small but mighty way to show support to family or friends in need.

there are lots of handmade gifts for quilters

Welcome to December! If you're anything like me, you've got all your Christmas shopping done, the presents are all wrapped, and the house is decorated. Uh, OK...that's not like me at all. I've got the tree up and sorta lit, but that's about it.

nine pillows are arranged in a circle on a white surface with the words crazy mom quilts written below them

Thanks so much for sharing your ideas for "happies" in the last post. It was fun to read your comments. I've added a few new ideas to my list! Of course pincushions are the number one on my list of things to make for retreat gifts. I have a few batches of them to share today! In early August, I attended another annual quilt retreat with some of my quilting friends. I've been a part of that group for a few years now, so I'm finally catching on to each of their personal tastes. (It takes me…

many different sewing machines are sitting on the floor next to each other, all made out of clay

Pictures - Retreat Gifts - Going on a weekend retreat next month. Made these up as little gifts for each attendee. I am the world's worst at French knots, but I think they came out cute anyway.

a piece of paper that has been cut out to make a quilter's strip poker game

After visiting the Quilter's Unlimited Quilt Show in May, I joined the Haymarket Chapter of QU. The June meeting was a Social, so it was FUN and relaxed. One of the activities was a game of Quilter's Strip Poker. It reminded me of "Bunco", where there are a group of women at each table, and a die is rolled until a bell is rung. Then you move tables and play again with different ladies until the bell is rung again. The die is specially marked - each side has either a "C", "L", "R", "X" or a…

two jars with labels on them sitting on a table

You can't go to a quilt retreat empty handed! So, I surfed thru Pinterest, and what did I find? A lil' ole recipe, for "Quilters Moonshine"! I don't know about your groups, but mine are all about a lil' moonshine! ...and not always the "fabric" kind, if you know what I mean. LOL!!! Giving credit where credit is due... This came from "Everyone Deserves a Quilt" blog. You can find it right HERE I've got to tell you...I absolutely love this stuff and it's WAY cheaper than that other high $$$…
