Simple Grandmother's Flower Garden

The possibilities are endless! I've been wanting to make a simple Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt for a while. Well, there’s no time like the present! A few weeks ago, I worked up a couple of pillows trying out my layout ideas for this simplified Grandmother’s Flower Garden. I loved this soft palette so much I couldn’t wait to see it as a quilt! This quilt is so easy and fast, even a very early beginner could do it, and it would make a great weekend project! This is all done with just one…

a bed with a colorful quilt on top of it

Tomorrow is the official release of my Tiptoe Though The Tulips quilt pattern, but I wanted to first share the finished photos of my biggest quilt to date... a whopping 108" (ca. 275 cm)! Wheh!... when someone says "go big or go home", it would appear that I take it quite literally! I sent my quilt off to Iva again to work her magic. Under my old machine, I could imagine that I would still be wrestling this beast at least until Christmas. She did an all over design of leaves and blooms that…

a blue vase filled with yellow daffodils on top of a white table cloth

This Spring I found, to my amazement, many daffodils growing in the garden. I did, admittedly, plant the bulbs myself, but I plant many bulbs and I’m always astonished if they grow – for the most part, they do not! Last year something dug up a little clutch of crocus bulbs and left them half-chewed on […]

a quilted wall hanging with flowers on it's sides and polka dots around the edges

I hesitated about showing you what I’m working on, but here goes. Do you like these blocks above? I don’t think there is a thing wrong with the pattern, but I’m not crazy about the fabric. The blocks look blah to me. The other day while blog hopping I came across this post at Color My World. Lisa took a block she didn’t like and made it into something totally different and very modern looking. I liked it so much that I decided to take one of my blocks and do some slashing and sewing myself…

an image of some flowers on a screen

A beautiful applique quilt seen at the Arizona State Fair, this detail view and the previous close-up show just a bit of the glory created in fabric. I was most impressed by the buttonhole stitch used to fix down the patches of fabric. Well done! This entry is by Gerlinde Hruzek, in the class for CC/S Seniors, Age 65 and Over, Class 183 Pictoral. She won a First Place prize for this quilt.

the diagram shows how to cut and sew an orchid flower with two petals on each side

Probably as a result of all the napkin stitching, I have managed to develop tendonitis in my left hand which requires a rest from any hand sewing until the thumb heals. I thought this might be a good time to post some of my vintage quilt booklets, so I have started the process of scanning the page
