Real weddings

Blair and Chris both agreed early on that they wanted to be intentional about the traditions they stuck to. "We only wanted to do things that felt meaningful to us. We didn't want to get too caught up in tradition, while not abandoning it either! For the overall feel of the wedding, we were very inspired by 'old Florida' and wanted to give the event a timeless feel."

Haley and Tristan had their wedding in Malibu. "We always envisioned having a destination wedding, of sorts. We originally looked at going abroad, but ultimately wanted our family members to attend without the stress of an overseas flight. Our family is from all over the US so we didn’t feel tied to a specific state. We knew we wanted it completely outside and somewhere with an amazing view!"

The most important thing for Paige and Luke was to have a simple, intimate and stress-free day. "We didn’t want anything to take away from being able to enjoy what we were actually doing, getting married! We can’t recommend a simple wedding enough, I didn’t feel an ounce of stress the whole time. Just joy and happiness!"

At the top of Lorena and Spencer's list when planning their wedding, was that it was unique to them. "We did away with the traditional things we’ve seen like bridal parties, first dance, plated dinner and cake cutting. Our focus was experience through food, drinks and music. We wanted our wedding to be dialled in but understated. We really paid close attention to every song that was played from beginning to end, we chose food that our guests would love and kept speeches to a minimum.

A few years ago Tashi and Brian saw photos of the Santa Barbara Courthouse and fell in love. "We went back and forth for a while about whether or not to have a big wedding. Brian and I always said that if we didn’t even end up having a big wedding, that we would have something very intimate and elope at the Santa Barbara Courthouse instead."

Claire and Michael are from NZ and had a destination wedding in Italy. "Michael’s family is Italian, and some of our favourite memories together have been spent around a big table, surrounded by friends and family, enjoying recipes passed down from Nonna. There’s always lots of laughter, hand gestures, and plenty of wine — a lively atmosphere, full of life. We really wanted to emulate this feeling on our big day, so Italy just felt right. "

Toronto is the place Emily and Rich met, fell in love, built a home, and raised their puppy. "After considering so many options for wedding venues, none really felt like ‘us’. We kept coming back to the idea of having an intimate wedding in the city that meant so much to our story. We got married in a sun-filled studio space just a short walk from home, then boarded a school bus that took all our guests to our favourite wine bar for dinner."
