Aboriginal children were sent there to remove the Indian from inside them and to help the government rid Canada of the Aboriginals. Theses schools were open all across Canada. The first residential school was opened in 1840 (Wikwemikong Indian Residential School) and the last closed in 1996 (St. Michael’s Indian Residential School). The schools were to help the Canadian government but just infuriated the Aboriginals of the present day.
