We pulled up the grass, planted my favorite perennials in clumps, and waited patiently for it to reemerge in its second season.  Perennials grow by the rule “sleep, creep, leap.” That means by their third year, they reach maturity and truly shine.  I can’t believe how lush this garden has gotten in just one year. I’m probably going to pass out when I see it emerge next spring. 😅   While there are many styles of cottage gardens (and I love them all), I opted for a casual and eclectic specimen garden for our 1900 farmhouse property.   Designing a garden is always about the surroundings, and that’s what this space called for!
