Description A maquette for a sculpture I never made. The winged being means something very personal to me and I suppose I never embarked on the project at uni because I didn't want to share my insides with the outside world too much.

In the twilight zone, 660–3,300 feet below the surface, strange things happen. Lights flicker. Grumbling and hissing sounds seem to come from nowhere. It’s so dark that many fish grunt and whistle to find mates, enemies, and food. | Creatures of the Ocean | Kids Discover

The Oarfish is a rare, solitary, and giant denizen of the ocean depths (arguably larger than a Whale Shark. (The Oarfish,17m as opposed to the Whale Shark, 12.96m in the Guinness Book of World Records.)) and is a filter feeder, comfortable cruising at depths of 200 m. Mistakenly named for its prominent pectoral oars with which it was thought to 'row', it undulates serpentlike with its dorsal fins and has been seen orienting itself vertically. This is one of rare photo. Thanks for pinning!

“リュウグウノツカイで思い出したんだけど、やっぱりどう考えても浦島太郎って宇宙人に連れてかれた話だよね。海は宇宙に似てるし、亀はUFOに似てるし、なにより、いっきにおじいさんになるのも怪しい。”
