Part of painting "Palace of Han Empire" (汉苑图), by Li Rongjin (李容瑾) of the Yuan Dynasty (1271 — 1368) and now preserved in the Taipei Palace Museum, portrays the view of a magnificent palace of the Han Dynasty (202 BC — 220 AD).

2nd century BC: Paper in Han dynasty China

The Han Dynasty was the second imperial dynasty in Chinese history. This dynasty was a long one – it was established during the 3rd century BC and lasted all the way until the 3rd century AD. It was a golden age in Chinese history and its influence can still be felt even today.

Traditional Chinese Painting "Appreciating Plum Blossoms at night in January" (正月寒夜探梅), about the daily lives of imperial concubines of the Qing, by Chen Mei (陈枚) of the Qing Dynasty (1636 — 1912), is now preserved in Palace Museum.

The honor guards of Crown Prince Yide, on his tomb relif, AD 706. Note the black and white cheveron stripped pennons. The black and white chevron stripes predates that of the Tang dynasty and was seen as early as the Northern Wei and Northern Qi period, likely a pattern originated from the steppe cultures of the north, nonetheless the Tang incorporated the motif and became a fixture of Tang dynasty armies.

Zhang Heng (78–139 AD), formerly romanized as Chang Heng, was a Chinese polymathic scientist and statesman who lived during the Han dynasty. Educated in the capital cities of Luoyang and Chang'an, he achieved success as an astronomer, mathematician, seismologist, hydraulic engineer, inventor, geographer, cartographer, ethnographer, artist, poet, philosopher, politician, and literary scholar.
