Teaching #mainidea and supporting details during #sharedreading and #writing in #secondgrade . The main idea is the “point” of the text, just like the cone has a point! Each detail is a scoop of ice cream. If you have too many scoops your ice cream starts falling apart (just like your writing). He still needs to be colored, but this is the visual I am using for teaching Topic and Details. This can work for both fiction and non-fiction. We are reading books about dogs so I chose to use a dog for our anchor chart! The dog is the topic or main idea and the bones are the details or facts that support the topic.
