Vaikunta Ekadashi is celebrated tomorrow, 29th December 2017, and is considered the most auspicious of the 24 Ekadashis. Performing the prescribed rites and observing the fast on this day is considered equivalent to observing all the other Ekadashis put together. The symbolism of Ekadashi also takes on the satwa-rajas-tamas tendencies in man, as the legend of Muran the demon is told, and rice is not consumed on this day. But why so? Glimpses of Sri Vaikuntha Ekadashi celebrations at ISKCON Sri Radha Krishna Temple, Hare Krishna Hill, Rajajinagar.

Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, a festival celebrating the Gods Vishnu and Shiva, either together or individually. Legend has it that on this day Vishnu left his abode at Vaikunta and travelled to Varanasi to worship Lord Shiva. He vowed to worship Shiva with a thousand lotus flowers but towards the end of his rituals, realised that he was short of one lotus. Vishnu, whose eyes were compared to lotus flowers, offered his eye to Shiva. #PureDevotion

Nirjala Ekadashi Vrat is observed today. On this day devotees worship Lord Vishnu to seek his blessings. It is also known as Pandava Bhima Ekadashi According to Brahma Vaivarta Purana, Bhima was a lover of food & wanted to observe all Ekadashi Vrat. But he was unable to control his hunger. He further got scared by thought of Lord Vishnu getting furious for him not being able to complete Ekadashi.
