Hiroyuki Tokutomi has had an interest in creating objects of art from wood and other materials since he was a young child. He grew up carving from pieces of wood that he found or purchased and over decades of practice, he developed and honed his inborn talents.
Tim West made his first pipe in 1967 and went fulltime as a pipemaker in 1975. The namesake Tim West brand uses Grecian Briar and are fully handmade, personally by Tim. The new line named Old West Briar are pipes that are made from 50-year old Algerian Briar. They are started by apprentices, and then finished personally by Tim himself. Konstantin Shekita is not only but one of the first Ukrainian pipemakers. A young Shekita started his career in tobacco industry at Kiev factory Golden Gate in the nineties. First he polished pipe mouthpieces; however he started soon to create smoking pipes from their design to manufacture. The factory manufactured wooden furniture as well, so he has enough raw materials for his first pipes.
