Getaway in the north mountains of Georgia, United States. There are many worse places to retire. ;) Just don't let the Squidbillies get to y'all. North Georgia/West N.C./ East TN is stunning.

columbus riverwalk
Columbus Riverwalk, Columbus, Georgia, United States. This is one of my favorite places ever. Across the river is Alabama. If you continue a mile or two down the 12 mile walk, it is uninhabited Alabama. When the water is low, this area has all kinds of exposed rock with turtles and cranes darting atop them. Gorgeous. The river is the Chattahoochee, which runs from North Georgia through Atlanta down to the panhandle of Florida.

Downtown, Madison, GA
Madison, Georgia, United States: The Mayor of the city was a Union sympathizer (and even knew Sherman well), so General Sherman avoided Madison on his March to the Sea. Thus, this is one of the best examples of what Georgia was like before The Civil War - however, even that courthouse to the right was built in 1905!
