Gold ear-disc. Indonesia: West Sumatra, Minangkabau people; 19th c. Gold; diameter = a massive 9.7 cm. One of a pair, shown on p. 291 of Richter-Carpenter (*Gold Jewellery of the Indonesian Archipelago*, 2011 - an excellent book well worth buying!). Worn by adult women. Showing wonderful embossed floral and leafy designs. At the centre is an applied flower of gold sheet. The disc is fitted with a short plug on the back which is inserted into the ear canal.
