Oregon designated Dr. John McLoughlin as the father of Oregon in 1957. One of the most influential figures in the fur trade and settlement period of the Pacific Northwest, John McLoughlin's name is familiar to all Oregonians. In 1905 the Oregon Legislative Assembly renamed Mount Pitt in southern Oregon to Mount McLoughlin
