Balikpapan is a city on the island of Borneo in Indonesia. I lived and worked there for seven years a long time ago. Civilization has caught up with it since I left. My office was right next door to the Blue Sky Hotel. It was kind of a dump that was owned by a Chinese family that I became close to. It was kind of a dump, it didn't even have a restaurant. Read about it in this blog and you will see how times have changed. This is generally true about Balikpapan. A great place to live.
