The Firefly Squid: This petite sparkling animal has some 8000 photophores on its ventral side which flash (clearly visible to the human eye) to attract prey and to attract a mate. (Some patterns of flash have a cadence resembling a terrestrial firefly.) Indigenous to northern Japan, hundreds of millions of females come to to Toyoma Bay each spring to lay their eggs and die, completing a 1 year life cycle. by PZ Meyers, http://tinyurl.com/s8ooe #Firefly_Squid #PZ_Meyers #Marine_Biology Toyama, Les Reptiles, Bioluminescence, Human Eye, Marine Biology, Creature Feature, Thing 1, Underwater World, Pics Art
