Dress ca. 1876, possibly modified in early 1880s. Silk taffeta in cinnamon brocade figured with ivory floral sprays. Bodice has low curved basque in front and broad pleats in back, is edged in ruffled pleats & lined in ivory satin. Borders trimmed with velvet ribbon. via FB House of PoLeigh Naise Silk dress, 1909-1911, by Mrs. Dunstan, a well-known New York dressmaker. This high-style dress is a particularly good example of her work and exhibits some of the typical techniques used in that period, such as the bolero-and-vestee configuration of bodice and over-the-shoulder panels.
