Money plays a large role in The Taming of the Shrew. Petruchio comes to Padua looking for a wife who will have an adequate dowry. He did not care about love much as he did money. Similarly, Baptista would only allow his daughters to marry someone who would take care of her, in terms of material items. He allowed Bianca to marry Lucentio because of his money and assets rather than for her love for him.
