Art face

Picasso portraits revisited

Every quarter, 8th graders create a portrait in the style of Picasso. We have created these in a multiple of ways in the past but this collage method has really been a successful start for all students. This lesson was adapted from United Art & Education's recent Project Guide.

The Roosters are in the house....

The terrifically colorful roosters are one of my all time favorite projects...they're inspired by Picasso's Le Coq...and I think all of the students were channeling his creativity when they worked on these. I would frame each and every one of them...love...love...love the results!

1st Grade Found Object Faces

My first graders had so much fun experimenting with found objects to make faces! After I saw this picture on Pinterest, I decided we needed to do a project with found objects. I already had a lot of random donated supplies that I wasn't quite sure what to do with, I started saving small objects, and sent out a request for "junk, not trash"- any small lightweight object. On the first day of the lesson, the students painted the background for their faces. (I told the students they could make…

Mixed media portraits by Picasso The style of Picasso portraits is unmistakable: the figures fall apart and are recomposed in his paintings, overturning all the canons and the proportions of the face in the style of Cubism. Picasso and Guitars

Pablo Picasso (Spain 1881-1973) Picasso had a thing for guitars, as some of his "guitar art" below illustrates. Kids have a thing for guitars too! Here's a lesson where the students draw a guitar, draw intersecting lines, then color the spaces. Simple lesson, but always fun and colorful. Special thanks to Mr. Lang, via Mr. Tedone, for sharing this lesson idea. Start with a dot in the center of the page, to help students position their drawing. Draw one horizontal oval below the dot. Draw…
