Tuptim is THE KING AND I's other great feminist. Brought to the King's palace as one of his wives, she feels dissatisfied by the subservient life and misses her true love. She defies the King by staging a remake of UNCLE TOM'S CABIN which is less offensive in its politics of representation than the original book. Anna almost leaves the palace when the King tries to punish Tuptim for running away. However, the show and the film, problematically, never let us know what happened to her.
