December 1 is World AIDS Day. AIDS is the last stage of an HIV infection, the point at which a person's immune system is so badly damaged, they become vulnerable to other infections. Without proper treatment, a person diagnosed with AIDS will not survive. In 1988, World AIDS Day was created to bring attention to this incurable disease by promoting prevention, testing and treatment.
