Phalanx aka CIWS automatically carries out functions performed by multiple systems: search, detection, threat eval, tracking, engage and kill assessment. The Block 1B version of Phalanx adds control stations that allow operators to visually track and ID targets before engagement using a forward looking infrared sensor.
