Human Zoos ~ Not long ago, people from Europe and other countries came to visit humans, locked in cages, exhibited in front of a large audience and thrown in with animals at their local zoo. At the World Fair in 1889, held in Paris, 400 Africans and Aboriginals were displayed to crowds of people, stripped down half-naked and thrown into cages. In the early 1900s, the Bronx Zoo had an exclusive exhibit with a Pygmy female. The 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels kept a Congolese village on display.
