This day in 1965..Candlestick Park.. San Francisco's Juan Marichal takes exception to Los Angeles catcher Johnny Roseboro's return throw back to pitcher Sandy Koufax, coming too close to his ear. Marichal snapped and clubbed Roseboro repeatedly to the point that took 14 stitches to correct.. Giants would win the ballgame by a score of 4-3..Defeating Koufax on this now infamous Sunday afternoon. Marichal gets suspended 10 games for the incident. Often considered one of baseball's ugliest moment
November 10,1988 Dodgers' hurler Orel Hershiser (23-8, 2.26) becomes the ninth pitcher in National League history to win the Cy Young award unanimously when he receives all twenty-four first-place votes from the sportswriters. The 29 year-old right-hander, known as the 'Bulldog' to his teammates, is the only player to win the Cy Young Award, the NLCS MVP Award, and the World Series MVP Award during the same season.
