The Dutch built a little town on the southern tip of Manhattan Island. It was called New Amsterdam and it flourished by selling skins. The settlers sold otter, beaver, mink and seal skins. Elmina, Ghana  This was a difficult trip that was definitely worth it. Here we visited Elmina Castle, where slaves were captured and sent to the Americas, first by the Portuguese and then by the Dutch. It was very difficult to relive the horrible atrocities that took place, but it was very worthwhile to acknowledge and remember this horrible stain in human history. Highly recommend a visit
