Wimille Prototype No 3, 1950. A further prototype, also designed by Philippe Charbonneaux, based on the same principles as Prototype No 1, used a Ford 2.2 litre flathead V8 ahead of the rear wheels, as a suitable V6 was not available. However tragedy struck when Wimille, still an active racecar driver, fatally crashed his Simca-Gordini in Argentina in January 1949. The project was stillborn, though it was exhibited as a posthumous homage at the 1950 Paris Motor Show
