Lola Montez became famous for her suggestive "Tarantula Dance," a provocative ballet where she pretended to become entangled in a spider's web and discovered the critters hiding in the folds of her flowing gown. As she waved her arms, leaped in the air and vigorously shook her clothing, revealing her petticoats, the audience sat spellbound.
