Bauer Elementary: Very Hungry Kindergarteners...I mean Caterpillars!

Kindergarten artists at Bauer Elementary had a blast with this lesson! This project concluded our Eric Carle artist study and was a big hit, especially because clay was involved! First, we read the classic book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which the students read along with me. We then drew very large leaves - big enough to feed the hungry caterpillar, of course! Next, students used tempera cakes for painting the leaves. The following class period, students were each given a small amount of…

Waiting For Wings! - Spring Bulletin Board

Photo Source: Darcel We recently received this adorable bulletin board idea from Darcel and thought we'd pass it along, just in case you're searching for a fun spring/end of the year bulletin board! We like how you can draw a parallel between the transformation of the caterpillar into a butterfly and the transformation that your students undergo throughout the school year - they start the year as kindergartners and end the year ready for the challenges of first grade, etc! Not to mention, a…

Week 7, Term 3

This week in Renwick 3 we have been learning to instantly recognise patterns to ten using our hands and blocks. This skill is really important because it helps us to solve problems quickly using a variety of strategies. Spring has come to Renwick 3! Using our 3-D art we have created a beautiful spring display of flowers and butterflies. Next week... Our sounds will be ow/oa. Our tricky words are school and before. During maths time our class focus will be skip counting in 10's and 5's. We…

Butterfly Life Cycle Learning Fun - The Happy Housewife™ :: Home Schooling

By contributing writer Colleen Butterflies make for a fun spring and summer learning adventure, especially for little kids. Kids learn about the butterfly life cycle and how to care for a living organism. And you don’t have to worry about the upkeep long term. After a few weeks, you’re able to let the newly emerged insects go, and […]

Teacher Appreciation door I did for my son's former teacher. I had each of the kids color a butterfly. We added their photos as the butterfly's face and added "Thank you for teaching us to spread our wings". We did a coordinating butterfly art project to decorate inside of the classroom (because 1st grade has a unit on butterflies). Cricut cartridge Cherry Limeade was used to cut lettering.
