Green Crab Spider - Misumenoides formosipes - Crab spider is a common name applied loosely to many species of spiders, but most consistently to members of the family Thomisidae. They are small to medium in size (1/10 to 2/5 inch long). Crab spiders "wear" many colors. They can walk forward, sideways, or backward. Outdoors, crab spiders are often found on flowers but are also seen on stems, leaves or bark. They are rarely found indoors. (Photographer John Flannery)

Mirror Spider Thwaitesia sp., Singapore - Wow. WOW. Bay captured this shimmering spider as it transformed itself from a somewhat rhinestone-studded arachnid into a solid wall of spider mirror. The shiny, reflective patches on this spider’s abdomen may be produced by guanine crystals, which can be a source of structural color in arthropods. Also commonly referred to as a “sequined” spider, the arachnid is a member of the Thwaitesia genus.
