Humanity. We as a country have so much to learn from others. In terms of culture, the U.S. is so very young, and we often behave like juvenile delinquents. There is much to be learned in our 'criminal justice' system - unrelenting shame and punishment simply does not work; we, too, need to focus on early rehabilitation.

I heard of this a long time ago. Ubuntu: a South African theory of 'humanity towards others', often used in a more philosophical sense as 'the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity'.

Understanding

"The true mark of maturity is when somebody hurts you and you try to understand their situation instead of trying to hurt them back." // (I don't want to label what "the true mark of maturity" is, but this idea of empathy vs revenge is important to me.
